Dyslexia in Children and Adults

At The Key Clinic, we work with children, teens and adults with dyslexia by looking at the underlying neurodevelopmental and auditory factors that can make reading, spelling and language processing harder than they need to be. Our biology-led programs complement specialist literacy teaching and can help create the conditions in which learning support is more likely to land.

Neurodevelopmental Movement

NeuroMature for dyslexia

Many people with dyslexia also have retained primitive reflexes, automatic movement patterns from infancy that never fully integrated as the nervous system matured. Decades of neurodevelopmental research link these to difficulties with eye-tracking, balance and coordination, all of which make reading and writing more demanding than they should be.

Take the Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex (ATNR), which triggers arm and leg movement whenever the head turns. It makes reading across a page, writing, and crossing the body's midline genuinely hard and helps explain why so many people with dyslexia are cross-lateral.

NeuroMature integrates these reflexes through short daily movement exercises, built on a decade of clinical work.

Follow it yourself at home through the BeBright app, with clear, structured video guidance every step of the way, and the option to add one-off coached sessions if you'd like extra support.

Parents and adults report improvements in reading, writing, confidence, coordination and anxiety. Everyone responds differently.

"It's been so rewarding to see the change in Dylan's academic performance and his confidence. He engaged with the program from the start, and The Key Clinic have been brilliant, professional, empathetic and endlessly accommodating."

Auditory Integration Training

BrightBeatz

BrightBeatz for dyslexia

There is a well-established link between dyslexia and phonological processing, the way the brain identifies and works with the individual sounds in language. When the auditory system isn't processing sound evenly, building reliable phonological skills can be harder than it should be.

Decades of auditory research have explored how uneven hearing affects learning. Some people hear different frequencies of speech at different volumes — a bit like following a conversation on a phone with poor reception, where some words come through clearly and others are missed. The brain then has to work harder to fill in the gaps, which makes reading and learning more effortful than it should be.

BrightBeatz is BeBright's at-home listening programme, developed to help the auditory system process sound more evenly. Created in collaboration with Audiology Professor Joshua Reiss of Queen Mary University of London, it uses customised, gently modulated music delivered through headphones over 10 days, in two 30-minute sessions a day. Some clients report that improvements continue to build in the six to months following the programme.

Testimonials

See the good news

BrightBeatz + NeuroMature

It has been a positive six months. Good to see some changes following the exercises. Help and support has always been available to us if needed along the way.

Reading wasn't why we came to the clinic but after AIT it was miraculous - he could read! It feels like we have our child back and he believes in himself. He is beginning to thrive which was all we wanted.

BrightBeatz + NeuroMature

I was sceptical at first when I heard about it from the Chris Evans show. But learning about it and following the programme, we can see how much it has helped. To see our boy grow into a more confident young man has been incredible.

BrightBeatz + BioTransform

He achieved As of 70% and over for English and Maths at Common Entrance, having always previously struggled to get results above 40%. At last his efforts are being rewarded and he can now fully demonstrate his intelligence.

NeuroMature

We feel he has benefitted emotionally and physically. In addition, his ophthalmologist has proved that his processing speed has increased. We are hugely grateful.

We were at a loss as to how we could help our daughter. When I first heard about the Key Clinic on the Chris Evans show, I immediately identified with what he was talking about. At each stage I have felt fully supported.

Symptoms of Dyslexia

In Children

In Children

In Adults

Reading/phonics difficulties

  • Difficulty learning phonics and spelling

  • Slow reading/dislike of reading

  • Below the expected level for their age (although you cannot diagnose dyslexia by attainment level, as children may learn to compensate, by working extra hard)

  • May skip a line when they try to read or find the words that seem to move on a page. (using a ruler or finger under the words can help)

Poor concentration

Loss of confidence (this increases over time, as effort does not match performance and they cannot demonstrate the intelligence they have locked inside)

‘Playing up’ in class or acting like ‘the class clown’ (again, a way of deflecting away from their areas of difficulty)

Dislike of school

Restricted vocabulary

Difficulty with:

  • Following instructions, finding it hard to take in what is being said

  • Finding the right word or forming answers to questions, often forgetting words

  • Seeing similarities and differences in letters and words.

  • Spelling

  • Recall of information
